Cheap good internet in the bay area?
Cheap good internet in the bay area?
I have ATT 2WIRE 3600HGV 25 Mbps for $40 in the California bay area. The router is few years old, but it is paid for.
If you happen to be tech savvy, I have bad reception and I don't know if it's att, the router, or what:
My router is in a corner behind a monitor. The house is small (router is on the perimeter), so the waves shouldn't have issue traveling (I'm never more than a 30ft radius away). The router is not in power saving mode, it's at Max power (100mA I think it was). I tried to update firmware but nothing happened last time I tried.
Ookla testing I get 12.3, 14, 13.2 Mbps 2ft from the router. Through 2 walls and 10ft away 9.9, 10.7, 12.7 Mbps. 4 walls and 20ft give me 11.6, 12.5, 11.2 Mbps. Downstairs (15-20ft down) with the door closed, the connection is terrible and sometimes loses connection. 2.8, 3.5, 1.8 Mbps. Wired connection gives 22 Mbps.
The upstairs numbers don't seem that bad but my streaming and browsing anywhere in the house is almost never without some buffering, and the downstairs loses connection etc.
I have a Netgear 'wireless n300 router with DSL modem' I purchased 6 years ago, will that help anything? Can I put it in place of 2wire router?
I've heard to call in and threaten to cancel to get improved speed, less price.
