Acorns: mobile, small increment, and purchase round-up investing
Hey guys, I just started using the app "Acorns" and it's been great. Not totally sure if it falls under beer money, but hopefully y'all will get a kick out of it. It's a low cost buy-in to mutual funds that allows you to pick the way it invests.
Ever wanted to start investing but don't have $500+ to open up an account? Acorns is a small increment and purchase round-up app that let's anyone start investing. I started my account with $10 or so. You can deposit/withdraw any amount at any time (1-3 day wait). It also automatically rounds up credit/debit card purchases to the next dollar. When they reach $5, it'll take it from your checking and invest it.
For those of you looking to get into some casual investing it's a great option. I signed up for free with my student e-mail and have been able to slowly watch it grow as an investment/savings.
If you have a student e-mail (.edu) then it's free to sign up, otherwise it's $1/mo for accounts under $5k and 0.25%/yr for accounts over $5k.
You get $5 for using a ref link, and $5 for everybody that uses yours!
