Prolific asks for ID, safe? Which legit survey sites dont ask?

I joined prolific and was excited up until they asked for a copy of my ID, surely that isnt safe? I am just uncomfortable because of all the scams and criminal activity online people can do :( which other legit sites like prolific, dont request ID?
