Does anyone know what the highest quality, be longest lasting exercise (cross training/walking) shoe currently is?

Last fall I moved to the coast and I've been taking my daily walks on the beach, but with tourist season starting I'll probably start getting my exercise in my neighborhood to avoid the crowds. This means my water shoes won't cut it and I haven't bought exercise shoes for a while since I only wear them for exercising. I'll be walking on a combo of asphalt and gravel if that makes a difference.
