Rev Captioning Test - Questions

No comments :

Hi guys,

So, I recently applied as a captioner for Rev, but I wasn't accepted; I meticulously went through my work, grammar, etc. Now, I have read about Rev's horrible wages and ethics, but this is sort of the only way I can make fast, easy money that is legit. So, having failed the test, I just wanted to ask a few questions:

  1. Has anyone been accepted as a captioner lately? And if so, are there any tips you feel comfortable sharing with me in regard to the test? I have a feeling that maybe I'm messing up on the timestamps.
  2. Is it true that even if you use another email to apply again, Rev can pick up your IP and will reject your application because of this?
  3. I've heard some people say that Rev rejects your application even if you did okay because they already have enough people doing the work? Is this true? I do see on their website a notice to say they get a lot of applications and that you'll be placed on a waiting list, but I did get an email stating that there's a growing demand for captioners, so not sure.
  4. Does location matter? I'm not from the US, so I was wondering if there is a preference in US applicants, (which I completely understand, not hating, just wondering if that's the case).

I know Rev isn't a great company but in my country, you can actually make a decent living on what they pay and I am pretty desperate since I have no other source of income atm. Also, I'm not making excuses about why I didn't get accepted and I hope my post doesn't come across that way, I just wanted to know if these other factors affect my chances. I would like to try to do the test again and try to be more thorough.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks, everyone! :)
