29M Spanish speaking medical student with now all online classes until the end of May. Looking for suggestions of frugal and warm places to live and study rather than the cold Northeast US. (Currently living off student loans because you can't work in med school)
Not sure if this is the correct sub for this but here it goes.
Advice Wanted: Looking for suggestions of warmer and economical living situations for the next few months. Specifically, cities or areas to stay that are economical in terms of living expenses and getting there.
Background: Currently in med school and classes are going to be all remote for the next few months. Now sure how they are going to do exams so I may have to come back once at the end of April and once at the end of May. I will probably try and get a small group of 3-4 people if possible. I am trying to get out of my lease as I planned on moving anyways and if not will try and sublet if possible. I am living off of federal grad student loans as that's the only way to afford med school. I have been frugal as where I am the cost is living is low, had SNAP (but can't renew as I don't have income), have a roommate, on medicaid, have LIHEAP etc. so I have been able to "save" a lot. (I recognize that some people will say to not spend any money and limit loans but, I had no debt from undergrand and med school is so ridiculously expensive that I'm okay with spending a bit extra. I have to give up a lot of my 20-30s with studying and long hours and I'm trying to take advantage of non-medical experiences as I can. I know some may disagree with this, but not trying to debate it and just giving background).
Requirements: I will still have to study a lot and will need internet access but would like to use this more flexible time to travel domestically and/or abroad (within reason). I prefer staying in a general area for a few weeks at a time rather than constantly being on the move.
Experience: I speak Spanish so am very open to Spanish speaking countries or areas. I have lived abroad in Europe and Central America and also have hiked the Camino de Santiago as well have done backpacking and camping.
(NB: I recognize this is a pandemic and will take appropriate precautions, cancel plans, isolate myself, and seek medical attention if necessary.).
