As someone new with no experience, what should I do to get my foot in the door for a decent paying Data Entry type job?

For personal reasons, I can't really work outside of home, and up until now, I just haven't worked at all. Something I really need to change, but being new to the scene and without guidance, I feel rather clueless and feel like it can be hard to distinguish between legitimate and solid opportunities vs the mass of clickbaity "get rich quick from home in your boxers" schemes online if you know what I mean. At the very least it can be difficult to filter through these opportunities online.

That said, I was curious if first of all, Data entry was a solid goal to aim toward for the next few years at least, and if so, how can someone with no work history for the last several years and no experience in this particular field get involved? I see some sites mention there are interviews involved and I feel like I will have almost nothing noteworthy to mention in one, other than the fact that I'm an avid computer user that can type fairly quickly and accurately. I've tried to teach myself Excel over the last couple weeks and I feel like I'm decently capable of at least the simplest functions, and the more advanced ones aren't "beyond my comprehension" for what that's worth, but would take time to drill into my head.

I hear certificates are often required for the seemingly better paying jobs as well, can these be earned at home, and what kind of timeframe do these take to earn?

Beyond that, as a true novice to this, I'm just interested to hear what you guys think I should know. Please consider me a blank slate that needs to know all the basics because that's basically true...

Thanks for any help ahead of time!
