new car owners - do your research before accepting the cost of dealership service work!

No comments :

For those of you that do have vehicles that are currently under warranty - make sure you do your research when the dealership quotes you a price for 'routine maintenance.' I have a Hyundai that is due for service because of its mileage, and the dealership that I bought it from quoted me between $420-$635 for a basic service that didn't include any parts being replaced etc.

I phoned another Hyundai dealership closer to me to check their prices, and they quoted me $295 with a free oil change. They also said that the dealerships were all different entities when I asked why there was a price difference.

When I called the original dealership to ask them to justify their costs, the service manager basically said 'that's the way it is,' and did nothing to try to keep my business. Of note, my family has purchased seven vehicles from them. I honestly didn't care enough at the time to raise a stink, but we'll keep it in mind in future. I'm located in Canada btw.

Turns out I could get all that work done, still covered by warranty, at Quick lane for $80. So Quick lane it is, and shall be in the future, unless it's for a recall.

tl:dr don't blindly pay service costs, no matter the dealership

(Also, not looking for opinions on buying new vs. used; my family has always bought new vehicles and kept them 20+ years/until totalled and it has worked well. Simply trying to share my experience)
