I signed up using PayPal, no charge made (or temp charge which they do using credit card).

It took about 3-5 minutes for me to be credited. Afterwards, I cancelled immediately and got this message:

There’s still time! Your free trial isn’t over There are still 30 days left in your free trial. You still have 3 books, 1 audiobook, and unlimited access to documents, sheet music, and select titles.

This doesn't mean your account is cancelled! On the right you will see something in the sense of "cancel account". I can't remember exactly what it said.
