Suggested rule of thumb: the best-value phone is the flagship of your favorite brand from 4 years ago.
Right now, you will make a frugal killing if you purchase the 2019 flagships: Iphone 11, Samsung S10+ or Oneplus 7 pro for instance. Last year, an Iphone X or a Note 9 was an excellent idea. Next year, buying an Iphone 12 or a Samsung S20 will be an excellent purchase. So forth and so on.
