Any tips for keeping shoes smelling fresh longer?

I have a couple pairs of shoes that are in fairly good shape and I haven’t had for very long but noticeably smell. Any tips for getting rid of the persistent smell that seems to be engrained in these shoes? I hate to get rid of them just based on that but it’s actually embarrassing at this point .
