Have a question? Read this FAQ first.

No comments :

Note: I AM NOT A MOD. If you have a question for a mod, please send it to /r/beermoney. I merely wrote the FAQ.

Yes, this post is up to date.

I've been reading a lot of complaints lately about the FAQ being over a year old. Yes, this post was originally created over a year ago; but just because a post was made months/years ago does not make the information wrong or irrelevant. The answers to a lot of these basics questions do not change. Not to mention, this post is checked and updated regularly to ensure it still provides correct information. If you want to know how long it's been since I've updated this, just hover your mouse over the * below the title and beside the original submission date. It will tell you how long it's been since the last update. There is also a flair on the post saying when it was last updated.

If you see something that you think is wrong, feel free to inform me about it and I will look over it. If something is confusing you or you think more clarification is needed, tell me about it. Otherwise, continue on as if this post was made just hours ago.

Welcome to part 1 of the FAQ.

This section covers questions about beermoney in general. This includes questions about exchanging gift cards, what equipment to use, issues with a site not working or offers not crediting, info on posting a giveaway or tasks, taxes, using VPNS/VPS/etc, and other general questions.

Part two covers common terms and which sites to use. This includes questions about which sites are available, how to make money quickly, the "best" sites, work under age 18, information about Engageme.tv, and other related questions.

Notice:

If you use any autosurfing websites, do not cash out to PayPal. There is a chance your PayPal account could be permanently limited. The post specifically mentions fastcashmining.com and cashminingbot.com but others may have the same problem. You should be fine to cash out using other methods.

DO I HAVE TO FILE TAXES?

If you're in the USA, yes. You might have to for other countries too, that depends on your country.

In the USA, once you earn $400 of self employment you're required to file taxes. If you earn $600 or more with any individual site in a year, you should receive a 1099 from them. Even if you don't make $600 or don't get the form, you're still supposed to report any amount you earn. This doesn't matter if it's PayPal, Bitcoin, Gift Cards or physical items. It is all considered income because you are earning it in exchange for a service.

Here's more detailed information.

HOW DO I GET MY REFERRAL CODE ON THE COMMON BEERMONEY SITES LIST?

As of December 2018, the referral contest has been changed. You no longer need to enter your information in a form each week.

To get your referral code on the post, you need to consistently submit top/quality content to this subreddit. Winners will be decided by the mods. Users are encouraged to nominate people they think are particularly helpful. Message Threw_it_to_ground to put in your nomination.

Here is more info.

I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT QUICKTHOUGHTS

  • Is it legit: Quickthoughts does pay, usually. However, they are extremely ban happy. Make sure to cash out as often as possible - you are practically guaranteed to be banned at some point. Some people only get a few days out of it, others get a few years.

  • Can I make a new account after being banned: Of course not. That would defeat the purpose of banning you in the first place.

  • The Rewards: iPhone only gets iTunes and Android only gets Amazon. If you are unhappy about your selection, consider selling or trading your gift card in one of the places mentioned later on in this post.

  • Earning potential: Surveys pay between $0.50 and $2 per survey. Different people make different rates depending on their demographics.

  • Earning limit: You are only permitted to complete 5 surveys per day.

  • Taxes: Yes, you have to pay taxes on this income. For US residents, you will be asked to provide your tax information after you earn $600.

  • No Network Connection: You were likely banned. Sometimes there is a legitimate network connection problem, but that's their typical ban message.

  • Bans: It happens all the time, even to legit users. Try messaging support and see if they will unban you. Their automated banning system is a bit touchy.

  • Support: It can take a while for them to get back to you. You need to be patient. If you haven't heard back in a few weeks, try sending another email.

WHY ARE MY COMMENTS/POSTS BEING DOWNVOTED?

There's a person or group going around downvoting literally everything on this subreddit. They have been doing this for a long time. Maybe they're trying to push people away from beermoney, or maybe they just like seeing people's reactions. Who knows. Don't let it get to you. Most comments/posts will be back to 1 point within a day. Less popular threads, referral trains, and posts with hundreds of comments might stay in the negatives, but that's just the nature of the beast. Unless you're getting to -5 or lower and staying there, it's nothing to take personally. In that case you might want to take a look at what you're typing. Beermoney users in general are more likely to upvote than to downvote.

WHERE CAN I EXCHANGE GIFT CARDS FOR PAYPAL/BITCOIN/ETC?

Most people go over to /r/giftcardexchange. /r/GCTrading is a similar subreddit. There are other sites that will buy gift cards from you, but they often will take a higher percentage for themselves which means less for you. If you want to use those, just do a google search for 'sell gift cards'. Another option is to ask around and sell to your friends or family. You can also try selling them on eBay or Craigslist.

If you are looking for a way to sell Amazon Balance, check out this post

HOW CAN I EXCHANGE GOOGLE PLAY CREDITS FOR PAYPAL/BITCOIN/ETC?

As far as I'm aware, there's no easy way to do it. There used to be an app that would, but it has been taken off the play store.

The only way you can do it now is to either find someone willing to trade an app for money (you buy the app for them, they give you money), or to create your own app on the marketplace with a payment system set up then spend your credits on the app.

MTURK DENIED MY APPLICATION. WHY?

  1. Are you from the USA? If not, wait a while. Sometimes mTurk will approve the application for international workers after some time has passed.

  2. Are you 18 years or older? mTurk is only available for people age 18 or older.

  3. Have you filed taxes? mTurk checks for your tax filing history. If you don't have a history of filing taxes, then try again once you do.

If you answered "yes" to all of the above, then just wait it out. Mturk is denying a lot of people, and some get approved weeks or months later. Search /r/mTurk for more info.

WHAT EQUIPMENT SHOULD I USE?

Prices and the best equipment is always changing. That said, it isn't changing incredibly fast so you probably don't need to make a new post.

  • For routers/access points: Many people recommend /r/Ubiquiti I used a cheap TP-link which worked well for up to around 15 devices. I usually search /r/perktv to see what people say. Even if the info is a bit old, you should get a good idea of how well routers hold up with a lot of devices.

  • For phones/tablets: Check out this beginners guide if you need help with specs. Various places go on sale, and it's hard to recommend a single place. A few places to check out would be Walmart, Best Buy, Tracfone, Straight Talk, and Amazon. The best time of year to get cheap devices is around Black Friday, but stuff goes on sale throughout the year. You can also get devices on eBay and C7Recycle but do take note that these are often used/refurbished devices and they may not last as long. Sometimes it's cheaper in the long run to just buy new devices.

  • For laptops: Look on ebay or craigslist. Buying used will usually get you a better price than buying new.

  • For powered USB hubs: Many people like these. Don't cheap out on your USB hubs - get a quality brand hub or stick with the OEM chargers.

  • For various extensions: Check out this post. - Although, I disagree about the auto refresher and adblock. Both of those can get you banned by many beermoney sites. FRQc is also great. Just set it to "auto low" and all of the flash videos will load faster.

Also check out /r/BeermoneyHomeNetwork/ for help with configurations. The posts are old, but the info is solid. It's just one of those things that doesn't change.

WHEN SHOULD I CASH OUT?

Always cash out as soon as possible, unless there is some sort of discount for saving up your points. Without a discount, there is no good reason to wait to cash out. You never know when you might get banned or a website might go away. Building up your points is just increasing how much you have to lose. The points are not yours until the money is in your possession.

WHY AM I NOT GETTING ANY SURVEYS?

Survey availability comes and goes. In general, you can expect to have more work during the first few days that you sign up. This is simply because there will be more surveys waiting to be complete for a new user rather than for someone who is completing them as they come in. While this is typically the case, it is certainly possible for a new user not to have any surveys.

If you are completing surveys on sites such as mTurk or Prolific - a lot of those are academic surveys. During the break periods (such as summer and holidays) there will typically be less work available. It will also depend on the time of day to an extent. You are more likely to find work in the morning than in the evening. Also, take note that survey work on the better sites such as mTurk and Prolific goes quickly. You often will only have a few minutes to accept the work - so you need to use a watcher of some sorts to catch the surveys in time. Also, make sure to fill out any profile questions that the site may ask for. Prolific has a fairly extensive "about you" section that will help filter out the surveys and grant you access to additional surveys.

If you still aren't getting surveys after a few weeks, you may not be in a desired demographic. You can try contacting support to ensure that there isn't anything wrong, but chances are there just hasn't been a survey needing you yet.

THESE @#%& SURVEYS KEEP DISQUALIFYING ME!!

Yes, that will happen.

BUT I SPENT 30 MINUTES ON IT!

Yup. It happens. Survey portals are notorious for disqualifying people. Sites that specialize in doing just surveys tend to be better. Basically, if you're on a site that has an offer wall and surveys - expect disqualifications to happen.

There are a few ways to prevent it, but nothing is guaranteed.

  1. Take one or two screenshots as you progress through the survey. Particularly when you get further towards 80-90% of the way through. When you get disqualified at that point, you can try bringing it up to the website to get credit. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't.

  2. Always be consistent in your answers. There are a lot of questions designed to figure out if you're telling the truth or not, and if you answer it wrong - you'll start getting disqualified a lot.

  3. Don't rush, and don't walk away from a survey. Some sites don't check for rushing, but many will. They also check if you've wasted too much time in between questions. Try counting to 5 after each question if you're getting disqualified a lot.

  4. Watch out for attention check questions. Sometimes questions will ask you to select a certain response, answer questions about text you've just read, or ask you silly questions such as "Are you an alien?".

OFFERS AREN'T CREDITING ME!

Are you clearing cache between each offer? Clearing cache is incredibly important to getting offers to credit properly. Check out the Vanilla cookie manager. Even if you do clear the cache, some offers just don't like to credit. /r/Swagbucks is a great place to see what swagbucks offers are currently crediting easily. Since many sites use the same offer walls, you can probably find the same offers on another site.

If you met the requirements for an offer and it didn't credit, the only way to get credited is to contact the support for the offer wall and show them proof that the requirements were met.

I'M HAVING A PROBLEM WITH A SITE

Is your cash out taking forever? or Is the site just not working right? - Look on a relevant subreddit, facebook or twitter. If there is a problem, people will be posting about it. If there's no mention of the problem, try asking on those subreddits, facebook or on twitter. If you don't know where to look, just go to google and type in the website name and what site you're looking for. For example "Swagbucks reddit" will bring you right to /r/Swagbucks. This works for facebook, twitter, whatever you need. If all else fails, contact support.

Is the site not loading? Try clearing your cookies. If that doesn't work, try another browser or another device if you have one. If it still isn't working, follow the advice above about "Is the site just not working right?". If you can't find anything about it, try waiting an hour or two, or even wait until the next day. There could be some issue on the website. If all else fails, contact support.

Can't login? Follow the instructions above about the site not loading. There's also a chance you've been banned. Some companies won't alert you to bans and will just suddenly remove your ability to login. Follow the advice below for "Have you been banned for no reason?"

Have you been banned for no reason? Contact support. There is absolutely nothing we can do for you here. A few site owners browse this place, but the bulk of us are just general users. You have to contact their support to figure it out and work on getting your account unbanned. Just be polite and friendly. If you didn't do anything wrong, you'll likely get your account unbanned. Sometimes a site's fraud detection is triggered on accident.

If you were banned by Quickthoughts, you likely will not be unbanned, but it still doesn't hurt to send them a message. Quickthoughts has recently been pushing a lot of bad updates that end up flagging many legit users. Unfortunately, they do not seem willing to accept their mistake, so many users are losing their rewards. Another reason many users get banned is that Quickthoughts has a 5 survey limit per day. It is unclear whether disqualifications count towards this 5 limit or not. You will be able to do more than 5, but you will be banned for it. Either way, message support and hope for the best.

Did you cash out to the wrong PayPal account? First, add that email address to your PayPal account. You can have multiple emails attached. Next, contact support and ask for guidance. If they already sent the payment, it may get stuck in limbo. If they didn't already send it, they may be able to send it to the correct email. It's best to contact support as soon as you can, so that they can advise you on the proper steps for you to get paid.

Having another problem? You're best off just contacting support. Most of the people here are general users. If you need individualized help, contact support.

I CONTACTED SUPPORT AND GOT AN AUTOMATED REPLY. WHAT NOW?

Quite a few sites will send you automated or copy and pasted responses at first. You often times need to reply to these emails in order to get a response from an actual person. Swagbucks is a perfect example of this. Swagbucks staff won't even look at your ticket until you reply to their automated emails.

If you get a reply and it doesn't answer your question, then politely email back and tell them that it didn't answer your question. Make sure to restate the question in other words (they may have misunderstood your question) and to say thank you.

Yelling or swearing at the staff will not get you what you want. From what I've seen, it will only get you longer wait times, more copy and pasted responses, and potentially banned. Be polite, be friendly, try to keep your replies short (without leaving out important details), and say thank you. You're much more likely to get the help you want this way. Remember, the support staff is only there to help you. So, treat them well, and they will likely treat you better.

WHY DID MY NEEVO / DEFINED CROWD TASK COUNTER GO DOWN?

This typically happens when you've missed a lot of attention checks or were kicked off the job. Don't worry, you should still get paid as long as you weren't giving bad answers. It may take a bit longer for them to validate your answers, and you may get paid a bit less due to the incorrect answers.

WHY HASN'T MY NEEVO / DEFINED CROWD PAYMENT HASN'T ARRIVED YET?

Give them some time. They pay out after the job has been completed and validated. It can take a few weeks to get paid. If the job has been closed for a few weeks and you still haven't received payment, send them an email: neevo@definedcrowd.com

HOW DO I TELL IF SOMETHING IS LEGIT OR A SCAM?

Sometimes it can be hard to tell, but here's a few things to look out for:

  1. If they send you a check and ask you to return part of the money, it is a scam. The check will bounce, and you will be out the money. If an employer needs you to buy something, they will either buy it with a company card, or ask you to send a receipt for a refund. If they've already sent the check, you can give it to your local police department if you want. Just block all communication from them.

  2. They pay a ridiculous amount of money or claim to pay "the most". Very few surveys pay more than $10/hour. You won't get more than about a penny to click links. Videos rarely pay more than a couple pennies. This is about the maximum, and it's very common to make half this rate or lower. If the site is claiming to pay so much more than anywhere else, it's a scam.

  3. You get an offer or interview from a site or job you didn't apply for. Be especially cautious if they want to do the interview over google hangouts.

  4. You are being asked to work for free as a "sample", or you are asked to install a program and wait to be accepted at a later date.

  5. They have a high minimum cash out amount (above $25). Many sites have $1-10 minimums.

  6. You are required to refer people to get paid.

  7. You have to spend money to use the program. Even if it is an "optional" fee, be careful. This includes "training fees".

  8. They don't disclose what type of work you're going to do. Sometimes job listings need to be vague for non-disclosure reasons, but you should always be able to get a general description of the work you will perform.

  9. The website or post is full of grammar errors. An error here or there is bound to happen, but any legit site is going to put in effort to look good.

  10. It's never been mentioned on this subreddit and/or you can't find reviews on google. Unless it's a completely new service, you should be able to find something about it somewhere.

  11. Most importantly - does it feel too good to be true? Does it feel sketchy? Is there something that is just off, but you can't put your finger on it? Trust your instinct, and come here to find out if anyone else has heard of the site. Do a search first, and if you can't find anything, then make a post about it.

There are exceptions to most of these, but these are some things to be on the lookout for. Here are a few more safety tips.

Also, never trust what a blog says. They are trying to get your referral link, so they will pretend the site is better than it is. If you see the site on /r/beermoney, look in the comments. If the poster is making outrageous claims, usually someone will leave a comment about it.

IS BEERMONEY DEAD/DYING?

No. Don't listen to the trolls. Beermoney changes over time. Some methods are less lucrative now than in the past. Some are more lucrative. Some have less sites offering the service, and some have more. Passive methods are on the decline, but beermoney is more than just passive methods.

I WANT TO DO A GIVEAWAY FOR EVERYONE HERE. AM I ALLOWED TO DO THAT?

  • Are you going to do a giveaway without any stipulations or endorsements? Then yes, that is allowed.

  • Are you going to do a giveaway where the requirement is to sign up under your ref link? Then you absolutely aren't allowed.

  • Are you looking to promote your site/link/etc along with the giveaway? Possibly; however, you must have mod approval before going through with it. Due to an incident users are no longer allowed to host their own giveaways in these cases. In order to do the giveaway, you must message the mods, and let them verify your prizes. They will also be the ones to pick the winner, so that an incident like that cannot happen again.

  • Are you unsure whether you would be allowed to or not? Message the mods.

I WANT TO PAY PEOPLE TO DO A TASK FOR ME. CAN I MAKE A POST ON HERE?

Depends. What type of task are you offering?

  • Are you paying people to let you utilize their Facebook Ads account? It's not allowed here, and honestly I don't know where it would be allowed. Don't post it on here though.

  • Are you looking for people to test your product or give reviews? If you are looking for Amazon reviews - it's not allowed on here. Amazon explicitly states that you are not allowed to post reviews in exchange for compensation of any kind - including free or discounted products, refunds, or reimbursements. As per rule #10 of this subreddit, posts that break a site's rules are not allowed. Not to mention, the reviewer can have his reviewing privileges revoked, and the seller can have his account closed. There have also been cases of Amazon suing reviewers and sellers over fake reviews.

  • Looking for just one person or a couple of people? Go to /r/slavelabour. (Don't be put off by the name. It's a legit subreddit to get tasks done cheap.)

  • Are you looking to do commissions or sales? Go to /r/slavelabour

  • Is it more of a "job" and pays at least minimum wage? Go to /r/WorkOnline. This subreddit is mostly for small stuff like watching videos, filling out surveys, and doing offer walls.

  • Are you paying people to signup on a website/app/etc? Go to /r/signupsforpay

  • Is it a survey? If it's a raffle, you will just get downvoted to oblivion here. Most people here don't like raffles. If it's a guaranteed payout and pays decently, then it will be well received here. However, I don't recommend posting it on here. Unfortunately, there are a lot of scammers here who will try to do your survey multiple times. I suggest taking it to a different subreddit, or an alternative site such as mTurk.

  • Is it a decent paying amount task and a lot of people can do complete it? Sounds like it's fit for this subreddit. It wouldn't hurt to put it on /r/slavelabour too. (Some examples of well received tasks are app testing, speech recordings, and named entity tagging.)

When in doubt, message the moderators and ask if it's allowed.

HOW DO I GET REFERRALS?

  • Invite your friends and teach them how to use the sites.

  • Advertise on social media.

  • Find a new website that has paid you and hasn't been discussed here (search first!) then advertise it here (with lots of info and payment proof!).

  • Pay for referrals (make sure the site allows it first!).

  • Join a referral chain.

DO I NEED TO USE MY REAL INFO? (name/address/birth date)

Absolutely. You need to have correct info on the sites that pay you. Lying about anything can cause a whole lot of trouble, including getting your account banned.

BUT WON'T I GET SPAM MAIL?

On the sites that give you the surveys?

It's unlikely that the sites that pay you will waste their money sending you spam mail.

From surveys?

Surveys will rarely send you anything unless you're doing something that specifically requires you to test a product. Most surveys I do don't even ask for name and address. When they do, it's just to check for repeat submissions and to account for the possibility of numerous submissions from a single location changing the survey results. I think I've only ever had one survey mail me anything, and it was a request to follow up for additional pay. Most just send emails though, but even those are pretty rare. I get less than 1% of surveys to email me for a follow up, and most of those are from mTurk.

From offers?

Maybe a bit. Most offers won't bother sending you anything unless you pay for it. You might get a little bit of junk mail from time to time. I don't do offers too often though, so I can't say for sure. However, after all of these years, 95% of my junk mail is from my credit card company, my previous car insurance company, and charities that I donated once or twice to.

You will get spam emails though. I suggest using a separate email for offers to avoid that.

THIS SITE NEEDS A PHONE NUMBER FOR VERIFICATION. CAN YOU HELP ME?

First, try using Google Voice. Some sites will allow Google Voice numbers, some won't. If it does not allow a Google Voice number, then most "free phone number" services won't work. Here's a list of sites you can try though. Most of these are VoIP numbers as well which simply won't work on some sites. Your next option is to try asking a family member or friend if you can use theirs. If you don't have anyone to help you, your only other option is to use a paid verification service such as /r/phoneverification. You can also try one of the sites listed here.

Don't post here asking users for phone numbers. We use these sites too. No one here is going to give away their phone number for you to use.

CAN I USE A VPN, VPS, OR OTHER SOFTWARE TO PRETEND I'M FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY?

No. You can get banned for doing this. Usually they ban you right after you redeem your first reward. The location is restricted for a reason.

CAN I USE AN EMULATOR OR A VIRTUAL MACHINE?

No. Third party software is not allowed, and you can be banned for it.

WHY WAS MY POST REMOVED?

The most common reason posts are removed are because you broke a rule or you are spamming. Did you search before asking a question or posting about a site? Did you include all of the required info and a non-ref link? Have you actually cashed out with the site before? Was it a cryptocoin post? We have a little over a dozen rules here; make sure you review them all before making a new post.

Was your post even about a /r/beermoney topic? Having the opportunity to make money does not necessarily make your post /r/beermoney. Sign up bonuses, crytocurrency wallets, investments, affiliate marketing, actual jobs, and other such things are not /r/beermoney.

It is also possible that you got caught in the spam filter. This is very common for posts with multiple links.

If you weren't given a reason, and want to know why, send a polite message to the mods and ask them. Also, keep in mind that the mods are human. It may take a few hours for someone to get back to you, but if you don't hear back within a day, try sending another message. Reddit gets glitchy sometimes, so messages don't always go through - especially if your message has a link.

Have another question? Check the FAQ part 2 or try searching first!

You can use the reddit search bar, https://www.redditsearch.io/, or even a google search with "beermoney" in it to find lots of useful information.

Here's more info on how to use the searches.
