Forced to be frugal - moving to uninhabited island!

No comments :

Hi there,

So my partner and I are moving to an uninhabited Irish island for 7 months in just under four weeks. We'll be working there, managing a small shops for when visitors arrive daily on boats. They can stay overnight in the very small guest accommodation which we will also look after. Our accommodation and food will be free. We will have no electricity or hot water but we will have gas. We won't have an oven but will have a stove top to cook with.

We are not conciously frugal at present but we do watch our spending and try to make good decisions when it comes to money/meal prep etc. What I'm asking for is some tips you may have to make our new lives a bit easier! Do you have some great recipes that don't need an oven to make? How do you liven up your oatmeal for breakfast? Is there one brilliant homemade laundry detergent mix that you swear by? How do you keep warm with just one fire to warm a whole house? Any and all tips appreciated - I've trawled through so many posts and got brilliant ideas but I'd just love to hear some people's holy grail tips!

Thank you!
