What am I doing wrong?

No comments :

A lot of people here seem to be able to make decent-ish money, but I'm not having any luck.

The pay for TranscribeMe is awful. It's only like 10-33 cents per audio clip. Most of the clips are poor quality, and a lot of times, I can barely hear what the person is saying.

MTurk is better pay-wise, but it still has other issues. I transcribed an over 30 minute audio clip for them for $9, with a 4 1/2 to 5 hour deadline, but it took me like 7 hours to finish it. Fortunately, they allow you to request more time, so I was able get a couple more hours to complete the job, but even then, I still cut it pretty close. For the next one I did, the pay was around $20 for over an hour of audio, with 10 hour deadline. Well, that one took me over 6 1/2 hours to do just 15 minutes! I had to call it quits because I didn't want to spend the entire day trying to finish this when it was quite possible I wouldn't be able to meet the deadline even with the extra hours. If I could just manage to complete an 1 hour clip in about 3 hours or so, or roughly triple whatever the time of the audio is, I'd be fine with that, but spending nearly the entire doing some as mindnumbingly dull as this for at best (!) $20 or so, which I might not even get if I run out of time, is really rough.

I don't know what my problem is. I can type around 80-90 words per minute. Is it even normal to take this long? The two MTurk clips I did were of decent audio quality, and I didn't have trouble hearing anything except when there were interjections from someone who wasn't talking loud enough, but even then, it still took me this long. If you guys know of any tips so I can speed things up, I'd really appreciate it.

Other than transcription, I don't know what I can do. Most of the other tasks on MTurk that I could potentially do seem to be really low paying, like only a couple cents or maybe a dollar, two dollars at most. I've tried surveys, but I never seem to get accepted, and most of them don't seem to pay enough that I imagine it would be worth it to invest a lot of time into them.

I'm not expecting to make an insane amount of money. Just a couple hundred dollars a month would be great. But I don't see how that'll be possible.
