Is it realistic for someone from Southeast Asia to look for remote jobs from US and UK?
Hello everyone. I'm not sure if this kind of post is allowed here but I'm trying my luck. I'm using my throwaway account for privacy reasons.
This will be a bit long since I tend to ramble so TL;DR - I'm from SE Asia and want to find remote jobs from US or UK because of the exchange rates, but not sure if it will work out since nobody around me does it.
So I'm from Southeast Asia. I used to work remotely for a local company for 3 years until I was laid off over 2 months ago because they were downsizing. It was my first 'real' job and I admit that I was spoiled by the flexibility of remote working, so now that I'm looking for a job again, I want to work remotely.
I was browsing Glassdoor and found this job opening from a company in London. It did not specify that applicants must be based in the UK and the job is something in my field (proofreading, writing & translation), so I thought, "Why not?" and applied.
I'm not expecting to get a response at all (one can hope), but it made me wonder if I should look out for more of these and apply? Part of me feel that this is not very realistic and doable in the long run mainly because literally nobody around me does this.
What do you guys think?
