Save money by refusing a lactation consultant after delivery

No comments :

Saved $400-600 on a lactation consultant and I wanted to share the horrifying story.

This is our second kid, the lactation consultant for the first kid was somewhat helpful as the wife never breastfeed before. A few hundred dollars was unexpected, but it's United States healthcare. Although on the flip side the lactation consultant misdiagnosed tongue tie and that cost us an additional few hundred dollars. But that isn't what this topic is about.

Upon delivery, our newborn latched almost immediately. We were both excited because this isn't always easy. We told the delivery nurse we didn't need a lactation consultant when she mentioned she was going to call for one.

Then we were transferred to PP for the mandatory overnight hospital stay. The new nurse mentioned shed have the lactation consultant head over. We again said we didn't need it.

At midnight the new nurse or Gyno changed and ordered a lactation consultant while we were sleeping. In the morning they showed up and handed us generic breast feeding papers and congratulations. I asked if we were being billed for it, "yes".

I explained that we didn't use their service and we refused multiple times.

"But insurance covers it"

No they don't. It's up to you to pay for your deductible.

I asked to get it removed, and I can only hope they did remove it.

Tl;Dr fight bogus hospital charges and save multiple days wages. It only takes a few minutes and awareness.

Best wishes
