rev id verification

Hi, I've done some work for rev in the past and I see now they are requiring ID verification. I saw another post somewhere by someone saying they didn't want to do that because they felt supplying a photo of their id to rev would make them vulnerable to identity theft. Does that sound like a reasonable concern? Also, if I used a nickname instead of what's on my ID to sign up do you think that will be a problem
