Looking for a frugal way to buy/build a cat tower.

I really want a cat tower for my cats but the cheapest ones are still $60 and over. I am hesitant to buy used because I am not sure about what illness the previous cats could have had. Has anyone had luck finding a well priced tower? Or if anyone has built one and is willing to share design for me to replicate I'd appreciate that as well.
