Ditching the dog should not be part of the Dave Ramsey baby steps

I witnessed a person ask if they should give their family pet of 8 months back to the shelter to save money for their debt repayment, and I’m heartbroken! I have a lot of student debt, and a wonderful dog. I am aggressively making payments to rid myself of the debt, and my dog is definitely an obstacle but I would never even consider this. 10 months ago when Louie became mine, I committed to providing him the best life possible for as long as he will live as part of my family. I would never part with him to drive down debt faster.
