Putting a "free" car to good use.
One of the quirks of my job is that I get a fully expensed Mercedes Station Wagon, which gets swapped out every 20K Miles or 3 years, whichever is sooner.
I "work from home" but in reality I spend most of my time driving around aimlessly, as "work" consists of occasionally answering the telephone, +/- 15mins a day, and I find that driving is the best form of relief from the obscure neurological problems I suffer from.
There are 2 conditions on the vehicle, I cannot take fee paying passengers nor can I perform deliveries. In order to quasi justify to myself driving 20K Miles +/- every 7 months for no reason other than pain relief, I currently do the following:
- Volunteer to take elderly/disabled people to hospital appointments.
- Sign up to every rideshare app going.
- Act as a free taxi service to all of my, diminishing number, of friends.
The remaining 80% of the time I am running a luxobarge around aimlessly.
The reason I am posting this on frugal, is that I view my frugal lifestyle as not solely for my benefit, but that of the community. Driving a car around with just myself in it is not really compatible with that ethos.
I would be interested to hear of any suggestions of how I may give value to others through the use of this car. The novelty of solo road trips around Europe has worn off.
I have had a few ideas such as transporting pets for shelters, again as a volunteer, however am struggling to find something consistent and purposeful.

I make $20 for each 20 minute survey!
ReplyDeleteGuess what? This is exactly what major companies are paying for. They need to know what their average customer needs and wants. So large companies pay $1,000,000's of dollars each month to the average person. In return, the average person, like myself, fills out surveys and gives them their opinion.
