Paypal Question

So I am finally ready to pay out of swag bucks and went to set up my first paypal account. My parents are skeptical to say the least. They don't really want to put in the bank or credit card information and I have always been told not to put in my ssn. SO can I still use paypal? As in can I still receive and pay money through it? I understand there is a cap and stuff but I doubt I'll be spending 100$ at a time anyway.
