I want to start and monetize a food blog but I have no idea where to start. Can r/workonline help me?
I'm using a throwaway because I think my boss might know my username and I'd hate for him to find out I was thinking about quitting before I decided too. Anyway, I have been in the food industry 20 years, 10 years of that have been spent as the Sous chef at a Micheline starred resort restaurant. I have an extreme passion for all things food. Unfortunately, my body is failing me. When I was in high school football I suffered a pretty traumatic knee injury during my junior year, and now it is coming back to haunt me. I can barely get up most mornings, despite wearing a knee brace I am constantly wincing in pain, I can't run or move too fast for fear of collapsing, same with carrying anything over like 20 pounds. My job is a high stress and high movement job and I just can't do it any more. A friend told me a food blog with all of my recipes tricks and tips might be a way to turn my love of food into something that can support my family, or even just supplement a desk job and keep me from going insane, but I have no idea where to start. So I have just a couple of questions I was hoping someone could answer.
First, I have a pretty decent grasp of social media and internet marketing, but zero idea where to even start building the blog. I have a ton of content ready to go as it will mostly be recipes and cooking tips but no idea where to even start putting together a website. Am I going to need a web developer type person or can I learn this on my own?
Second, Once again I understand how to market my blog sort of, but no idea how to monetize it. Is it possible to monetize something that doesn't have tens of thousands of visitors a day? If so can it be consistent enough to work for me indefinitely or will I need to be constantly creating new blogs/trying to find other ways to make money because my blog died out of nowhere?
Third, Should I find a niche or is it possible to do a little of everything? Should It be something like "Budget gourmet cooking" or can it just be "Broken_chefs food blog"
Last, As of now I work 60-80+ hours a week so working alot is no problem and working hard is no problem, but for someone who has never done anything like this before. Is it going to be too overwhelming for me?
TL;DR Broken chef wants to start a food blog. No clue where to start
Edit. I should mention that after taxes I bring home about 62,000 a year. So I would be looking to make close to that (50,000 at least) Is it feasible to bring home anywhere close to that with a blog?
