Has anyone tried using a mobile hotspot for home internet instead of WiFi?

I just moved to a new city, and the cheapest WiFi plan I can find comes out to $60 after fees. I’m considering using my phone’s mobile hotspot instead. Does anyone have any experience with this, or any input at all? My main concern is that I will be taking some exams online this semester, and lapses in coverage happen depending on demand. Thanks!
