How do you make food without buying to much

So I been wanting to learn how to cook but I don't want to cook one dish then another and be left with like leftover ingredients. Anyone know a app to figure out recipes all in the same area.

Ps I'm tired probably regret saying this in the morning since it might be common since lol.
