antivirus software/firewalls

Sorry, I don't know if I'm in the right place for this. I was looking into a new job and they were talking about how they require antivirus software and named a list of recommended options, namely Avast, McAffee, and Norton. I've heard over the years though that these three in particular are kind of a joke and no one should ever use them, ever. I was just wondering if anyone here had any recommendations, because I need work stat and I don't really know where to begin with this. Any advice would be appreciated.
